“ I attended a demonstration over a decade ago in
which a flooded boat containing salvage bags was
sailed in Sydney Harbour. This system was developed by a sailor who had literally had to pump and bail for
his life for eight days after a storm swept away his
dinghies and life raft and his boat’s hull was damaged
by the broken mast.
His updated Turtle-Pac buoyancy products are now also
used in aircraft. As far as I’m aware, this is the
only firm currently operating that claims much depth
of experience in this field.” |

“ Inflatable flotation bags aren’t new to the company,
as they have been making air bags for over 20 years
servicing commercial salvage businesses and for use by
the military to salvage downed aircraft and recover
sunken equipment. The same bags are also , in various
configurations, used to transport spare fuel for
aircraft, boats and overland expeditions and water for
drinking, fire fighting and agriculture.” |

“ The proprietor of Turtle-Pac, Laszlo Torok, started
this venture after spending more than a week bailing
his dismasted, holed yacht in a major storm some years
ago – quite an inspiration! The early days of the
industry saw CO2 and various gas mixes stored in
cylinders to inflate the bags. These days, for various
practical and technical reasons, plain old compressed
air is used. Scuba tanks are installed in a convenient
place and flexible high pressure hose is connected to
the float bags.” |
